Art Preparation
Receiving finished final artwork is the biggest hurdle in our industry. The following is provided to educate.
Camera Ready Art:
Camera Ready Art is black & white art on gloss white paper that is clean, color separated and sized to fit. Laser printer generated art, copy with rough edges, copy that has been taped over or has holes in the copy is not considered camera ready. Any overlapping inks (called "trapping") to prevent white spaces should be present in your artwork. Any photos should be in place and half-tone screened (consisting of small dots). We are able to clean up some rough work and will notify you if additional charges will be incurred.
Film:
Film for offset printing should be supplied as negative film, right-reading, emulsion-down, with a line screen of 150 or 175 with registration marks, crop marks and color indication on all film. If graphics, photos, or screens (light density inks) are present, the film should be at 2400 dpi (dots per inch) or higher resolution. Bleeds should be a minimum of 1/8" and tight trapping should be .004. Additional charges will be incurred for re-trapping the job. 4-color process jobs with solid black background should be set up with under colors of cyan (40%) magenta (30%) and yellow (20%). Film and a color proof is required for all 4-color process jobs. If a color proof is not supplied, for an additional charge we will make one and send it to you for approval. Film for screen printing is to be supplied emulsion side up.
Digital Files: (Download disk output request form PDF)
You may submit your artwork on computer disk using one of the following applications: QuarkXpress, Photoshop, Illustrator, Pagemaker or Freehand. If your application is not one of these, please call. Artwork must be created with a minimum of 600 dpi resolution. In general, save all screen and printer fonts and native graphic files with the primary file. A color proof should accompany your electronic file. You may submit file via floppy or Zip disk. One-color files may be e-mailed to us. Film output charges are based on the number of pages of film and complexity of the file setup. We will call you with additional charges before we output film. Include laser proofs of your current file from submitted disks and a completed disk output request form with your order. We recommend that you retain your original file and send us a copy in case of lost or damaged disks. Blue lines and or color proofs are required, for an additional charge and must be returned before the job can be produced.
